Yoga Yoga Teachers

Ana

Ana fell in love with the practice of Yoga over 14 years ago, when she moved to California from her native Croatia (that's where the accent is from). She has been the student of Yoga Yoga since 1997. In 2006 she completed the 250- hour teacher training at the studio and has been teaching different level classes since. In her classes she likes to emphasize the importance of breath and proper alignment, and encourages students to challenge themselves within their bodies abilities. Ana is a certified Pilates mat instructor, and includes core strengthening exercises into her classes. She believes that the deeper awareness of your core muscles can invigorate your yoga practice.
“When I first started practicing yoga I enjoyed the physical and spiritual aspect of it, and eventually I wanted to bring more of what I learned on the mat into my everyday life. Teaching yoga has been a profound experience, and I love teaching and learning from my students!”

April

April has been practicing yoga regularly for more than nine years. Her appreciation for the practice of yoga deepened after the birth of her daughter when going to yoga became a retreat. A peaceful place to go to rejuvenate her mind and body. Yoga developed into a passion and a way of life which lead April to complete her 245 hour teacher training with Linda Wissmath and Blaire Chodor at Yoga Yoga in 2007. April has been teaching for more than two years. Her style includes: “following the rhythm of your breath,” as one movement leads to the next, calming the central nervous system through breath awareness, balancing the chakras, strengthening the core: “the power center,” and creating a sense of peace. Today, April loves practicing yoga at home with her daughter, cats, and dog.

Blaire

Blaire has studied yoga for more than sixteen years and has been teaching for the last fifteen. Blaire’s first teachers David Life and Sharon Ganon at Jivamukti, NYC inspired her life long passion for yoga. Blaire teaches with compassion and humor making even the most challenging poses accessible and fruitful. She holds a Ceritificate from Sivananda Teacher Training in Grass Valley, completed teacher training at Yoga Zone with Rod Stryker in Brentwood and she has currently completed certification with Judith Lasater in Relax and Renew techniques. She is a certified Pilates mat teacher from the Physical Mind Body Institute.

Carol

Carol has been a student of yoga since 1994 and she has been practicing Iyengar yoga exclusively since 2000. She started yoga as just another way to exercise, but it quickly turned into something much more, and is now simply a way of life. Her primary teacher is Paul Cabanis and she completed her teacher training with Kofi Busia. She studied with BKS Iyengar in Colorado in 2005 and with his daughter Geeta Iyengar in 2007. She continues to take workshops with senior teachers from around the world every chance she gets and enjoys bringing those teachings to local students here. Yoga has completely transformed her life in every area and her teaching is a natural extension of that process.

Emily

Emily has been practicing yoga for over 11 years. She credits her teachers Saul David Raye, Shiva Rea, and Max Strom, and Cynthia Funk for helping her find her own teaching style that draws from the Ashtanga and Vinyasa/Flow lineages. She completed the Sacred Movement/Exhale Teacher Training in 2003. Her classes link breath and movement to create a heart-opening meditation, and to find the power inside to cultivate a deeper sense of peace. Emily also has a dance and choreography background with a Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.) in Vocal Performance, and loves to explore the creative spirit and inner artist through ever-changing, challenging sequencing. At her home in Echo Park, Emily practices yoga daily along with her boyfriend, cat, and parrot! She also teaches privately in the L.A. area.

Erika

Erika discovered yoga in 2007 in a small donation-only studio in the heart of the arts district in Downtown Los Angeles. After many evenings of walking from the business district to the arts district in her business attire carrying her yoga mat, her curiosity grew about this art she had discovered. In 2008 she embarked on a 9 month European journey and explored yoga throughout Spain and Italy. Upon her return to Los Angeles, she joined a teacher training program with Yogaworks. Her journey and training have exposed her to many different yoga teachings. She thanks her practice for exposing her to an internal stillness and serenity she would have never discovered in this fast paced world. She looks forward to continue deepening her practice and sharing her knowledge with her students as she learns from them as well. In her class, Erika creates an open environment where students can learn to leave all their worries off the mat and rejuvenate their body with the therapeutic and serene practice of a Hatha flow and 5 Tibetan influenced class.

And I want to be able to touch my toes – and maybe even do a headstand – when I'm 90! I can definitely say that I am inspired in someway from every yoga teacher I take class with. And, as a teacher, I hope I will in return, inspire those who take class with me.”. She is married and a mom of 3.

Laurie loves practicing many different kinds of yoga and is always exploring new possibilities for growth and depth in her practice.

“I started practicing yoga when I was in high school to help calm my mind of all of my busy thoughts and worries. I immediately knew yoga was my kind of practice when I discovered that I could make each class that I take totally personal by doing what I needed most on that day. I discovered a different kind of yoga practice than I was used to a few years ago when I became stressed out with work and life and needed to start taking care of myself better. Yoga has dramatically improved my quality of life and the quality of my relationships with my family, by helping me reconnect with the beauty and strength inside me. I now have more positive energy and outlook on my life. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share my energy with others and help create positive change.”

Mary Ellen

“I started practicing yoga in 1994 when I was unemployed and a friend suggested a Santa Clarita city class. Well, just as I started class I found a job and was off traveling for business. My job led me to interesting places and I always tried to find yoga wherever I went. When I came back to SC on weekends I would go to Yoga Yoga. So, I've taken a wide variety of classes from many different teachers in a myriad of studios, gyms, and community centers.
I worked for a while and then took a long break to travel around the world. One goal was to experience yoga in India. I had no idea how to do it, but I made it to Rishikesh and practiced yoga with a swami.
I recently graduated from teacher training with the curriculum taught by Linda Wissmath and Shanan Harrell. It was great and I'd like to share my experiences of a wonderful home at Yoga Yoga with all of you. It has been a place I have come to for over 14 years and I have always felt welcome and refreshed after practicing yoga at Yoga Yoga.
